Justice for Asifa- Peace march in Delhi
This is happening in your world. Your country. People who lead lives very similar to yours. I don’t mean to draw comparisons based on lifestyle and religion but we all lead the same lives sharing a belief that we’re safe. We’re safe when we breathe the same air, we’re safe when we step out of our houses and we’re safe when we choose to go about doing our daily chores.
This happened in our world.
Let’s not talk about religion for a minute. Let’s talk about humanity and the masses.
Today I saw an example of this. We are the masses. You and I. A crowd of 1000+ people came together to stand for something they believed in. Disjointed as some of them were, they were there! They were out, standing together on a humid Sunday evening trying to define their role in society. Some shouting out slogans, some quietly contemplating and some listening to the speaker with undivided attention.
People holding placards, a teenager reciting her take on Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ and speakers on the dais openheartedly declaring the irony behind the nation’s favourite slogan “Bharat MATA ki jai”. This was my first time witnessing what power numbers have.
This was my first time being a part of something that was bigger than me.
